Fans Call For WB To #RestoreTheSnyderverse On Anniversary Of Zack Snyder’s Justice League

Today marks 1 year since Warner Bros finally did the right thing and released Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max. This came after over 3 years of fans petitioning the studio to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut after the theatrical cut of Justice League (which was hacked up and reshot by Joss Whedon at WB’s request) was poorly received.

Fans were vindicated when the real version of the film was released and it was not only better but loved by casual audiences and even some of the naysayers reaching an audience approval rating of 94% on RottenTomatoes. People were so impressed by the film and its cliffhanger promise of things to come (Snyder’s original plan was for 2 more Justice League films) that fans (and even some cast and celebrities) took up a new rallying call to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse.

Now, a year later, another fan initiative is underway on the first anniversary of ZSJL. Already the hashtag #RestoreTheSnyderCut has reached over half a million tweets on Twitter.

UPDATE: Final Tweet count was 560k.

And really there’s no reason they shouldn’t restore the Snyderverse. Since Snyder left, the DCEU has been in an abysmal state, releasing dud after dud. Birds of Prey didn’t hit its break even point at the box office. Wonder Woman 1984 was panned by critics and fans and lost money for the studio. James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad was also a huge box office flop. Now you may be thinking, well that’s because of the pandemic, but Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was released just months after The Suicide Squad, in December no less (when illnesses were rising) had no problem reaching almost 2 billion dollars.

The reality is that outside of Aquaman (which banked heavily on the appeal of its water based setting in international markets like Asia) the Hamadaverse has been flop after flop after flop. This is the kind of failure that caused the entire Snyderverse to be derailed after only one movie and yet WB stubbornly keeps moving forward with this new direction. The latest rumors are even worse, as The Flash movie, which many fans have started calling The Flush, is said to erase the Snyderverse, kill off Batfleck, and replace him and Henry Cavill’s Superman with their female counterparts. The only thing that may stop these plans is the upcoming Discovery / Warner merger. Much of the 2022 DC movie slate was pushed back to next year, including The Flush, and there have been whispers changes are in fact being made, including a reprieve for Batfleck. We’ll just have to see.

I started reading comics as a kid in the early 90s. My favorite characters were always Superman, Batman, X-Men, and Spawn. "The Dark Knight Returns", "The Death of Superman", and "Knightfall" were the storylines that got me into DC.
